“Fraternity is not only the result of conditions of respect for individual freedoms, nor even of a certain regulated equity. […] Fraternity has something positive to offer to freedom and equality.” So reads the encyclical Fratelli Tutti, an invitation to rediscover the generative power of fraternity in today’s world. It is precisely this spirit that gives life to the World Meeting on Human Fraternity 2025, now in its third edition. The event, promoted by St. Peter’s Basilica, is scheduled for Friday, September 12, and Saturday, September 13, in Rome, and will bring together men and women in dialogue at 15 thematic round tables, which will serve as workshops for discussion and planning. “The world is suffering. Wars, loneliness, new forms of poverty. For this reason, we pause to ask ourselves: what does it mean to be human today? We will do so among people of different cultures and traditions, languages and religions, generations and places of origin. The 15 Tables and the Assembly of Humanity are a cultural and spiritual process,” said Father Francesco Occhetta. Each table is called upon to face a threefold challenge: to define the principle of fraternity in its own world; to develop a metric to measure it; to collect good practices and take action. The desire is to deliver a synodal movement that is an alternative to war and violence in the world. We must believe together: “Fraternity has something positive to offer to freedom and equality” (FT n.103).

THE PROGRAM – The heart of the Meeting on Friday, September 12, will be the 15 thematic round tables: Agriculture; Environment and Sustainability; Local Administrators; Art and Literature; Children; Economy and Finance; Education; Political Training; Business; Information; Artificial Intelligence; Work; Health; Sports; Third Sector. On Saturday, September 13, in the evocative setting of the Hall of the Horatii and Curiatii at the Campidoglio, the Be Human Constitutional Assembly will be held. It will be an event of extraordinary value, led by Nobel Prize Laureates and representatives of international institutions. Participants will gather the work done at the thematic tables the previous day and begin a “synodal journey” with the aim of involving communities around the world in recognizing and illuminating “what it means to be human today.” Among others, the following will take part: H.E. Card. Mauro Gambetti, Archpriest of St. Peter’s Basilica, Vicar General of Vatican City, and President of the Fabric of St. Peter’s; Graça Machel Mandela, Mozambican activist and politician, co-founder and Vice-President of The Elders; Maria Ressa, journalist and 2021 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.
“Our humble intention is to propose to the world the horizon of fraternity as the keystone for a new political order, a new economic order, and a new social order for human existence. The principle of universal fraternity can offer the coordinates for writing the history of this epochal change in a constructive way: attentive to people, respectful of differences, in harmony with creation, and guaranteeing the freedom and equal dignity of every human being. As Pope Leo XIV recalled in his homily at the beginning of his pontificate: “Brothers, sisters, this is the hour of love! Together, as one people, as brothers and sisters, let us walk towards God and love one another,” said Cardinal Mauro Gambetti. The experience of the Tables helps us to meet and listen to each other, to get to know and recognize each other. Rediscovering fraternity and choosing words and gestures based on humanity can nourish the lives of institutions and businesses, hospitals and sports centers… even artificial intelligence with meaning and values. On the evening of the 13th, fraternity will also take center stage, told through the universal language of music and the stories of those who have made it a way of life. A jubilee event to spread grace throughout the world.”

These round tables will meet in particularly symbolic locations in the city, such as the Campidoglio, the FAO, the headquarters of the European Union, the ABI, and the Province of Rome, to emphasize the importance of open dialogue between institutions, civil society, academia, and the media. It will be a unique opportunity to network ideas, experiences, and best practices, with the aim of giving substance to the values of fraternity and building new perspectives for the future together.

THE CLOSING EVENT – On Saturday evening, St. Peter’s Square will become the center of an international event entitled “Grace for the World.” The stage will feature internationally renowned witnesses and artists, including Maestro Andrea Bocelli, Pharrell Williams with the gospel choir Voices of Fire, John Legend, Karol G, and the choir of the Diocese of Rome conducted by Maestro Marco Frisina. The show will be made even more impressive by an aerial display of around 3,000 drones and lights by Nova Sky Stories, with images inspired by the Sistine Chapel.
