“We are different, we have different cultures and religions, but we are brothers and sisters and we want to live in peace.”
These words of Pope Francis inspired the Round Table on Sustainability and business: being good pays off. Today we generally claim to follow the dogmas dictated by sustainability even if some still believe that environmental protection is important, but not at the expenses of the economy. However, it has been proven that Italian companies live better when they pay attention to environmental and social issues. Sustainable choices are a competitive and decisive factor in creating an economy that is more humane and, therefore, “more sustainable”, to quote the Assisi Manifesto promoted by Symbola and the Sacro Convento. It is imperative to reaffirm the belief that kindness, consideration for others, and inclusivity are fundamental aspects of this line of reasoning that call for a common accountability.
