  • The second edition of the School of Arts and Crafts, the school of practical knowledge within the Vatican walls, promoted by the Fabbrica di San Pietro, in collaboration with the Fratelli tutti Foundation, is kicking off. Classes, which will start in October 2023 and end in March 2024, will be enriched with two new courses: courses for stonemasons, stonemasons, masons, decorators, plasterers and carpenters will be joined by courses for blacksmiths and mosaicists. Applications to participate in the new training semester should be sent by July 15, 2023 to scuola.artiemestieri@fsp.va.

How to participateThe school is free of charge and open to Italian and foreign young people-with a B2 level knowledge of Italian-and aged between 18 and 25, who hold an artistic license, a technical institute diploma (with reference to CAT courses), a professional institute diploma (with reference to Maintenance courses), an IeFP professional diploma (with reference to the diploma for woodworking technician and technician for artistic workmanship) or a foreign qualification equivalent to the Italian one. The courses are also open to university students if they meet the requirements. Classes will be held in-person, on the premises of the Fabbrica di San Pietro. The students will follow cycles of face-to-face lectures, seminars, as well as guided tours, study visits and workshop activities. In particular, the workshop hours will be held in the workshops of the Fabbrica di San Pietro, where aspiring artisans will have the opportunity to practice and work in close contact with the Sanpietrine craftsmen.

The properly technical and professional aspect will be joined by the human and spiritual component: the boys will share the housing made available free of charge for the entire duration of the courses. The goal is thus an integral development of the person, in his or her personal and community dimensions.

The St. Peter’s Factory School of Arts and Crafts reopened its doors last January after a full 250 years. The successful experience of the first edition, which is drawing to a close, and the enthusiasm and satisfaction of the first 20 students, half of whom are women, indicate to us that the path is the right one.
