  • We need to know and rediscover the meaning of some words in order to be sisters and brothers to each other. Because the language we choose to use sculpts the world, for better or for worse. Father Francesco Occhetta S.J. reminds us of this on “Di Buon Mattino” – a program broadcast on TV2000 – during the presentation of “The Vocabulary of Fraternity,” a book published by Rizzoli and edited by the Fratelli tutti Foundation.

Many words over time undergo a semantic change, influenced by the evolution of society, the change of generations. Learning, knowing, knowing therefore as many terms as possible is like possessing the coordinates to orient oneself in the world in a free and conscious manner. These 365 words, deepened and explained by very different authors, make up the volume like a puzzle. Some complement each other, others are at opposite extremes; but all, together, narrate a single goal, a common horizon: building a new paradigm of fraternity.
