Fraternity, rearmament, war words between peace and conflict. The dialogue in Perugia.

  • News
  • A packed hall, the attention of citizens and institutions for an issue that shocks the world more and more every day.

The message was clear. The rediscovery of human words against words of hate, of a world without wars while conflicts continue around the world and no one can find the key to stop them. Perhaps only the light of fraternity can illuminate a road and stop war.

The occasion was the presentation of the Fratelli tutti Foundation’s volume “The Vocabulary of fraternity, 365 words to rewrite our humanity” (Rizzoli), which was presented last Thursday, June 19, in Perugia in the Aula Magna of the University for Foreigners of Perugia, in Palazzo Gallenga, after the events in Naples, Rome, Lecco and Novara.

The debate on the book was intended to be the cue for an even broader discussion on the future of the world, the human, peace and war, and rearmament.

That is why speakers who have always been peacemakers came together. Speakers included Magnifico Rettore of the University for Foreigners Valerio De Cesaris; President of the Umbria Region Stefania Proietti; Mayor of Perugia Vittoria Ferdinandi, also Anci’s delegate for Peace; Archbishop of Perugia and Città delle Pieve Monsignor Ivan Maffeis; Rai Umbria Director Giovanni Parapini; PerugiAssisi Foundation for the Culture of Peace President Flavio Lotti; and Fratelli tutti Foundation Secretary General and book editor Father Francesco Occhetta. Journalist Alessio Maria Antonielli moderated. And Ilaria Falini of the Teatro Stabile dell’Umbria read some words from the book.

The meeting was organized by the Fratelli tutti Foundation, St. Peter’s Papal Basilica and the World Meeting on Human Fraternity #BeHuman, which celebrates its third edition in Rome on September 12 and 13. Sponsorship was granted by the Region of Umbria, the Municipality of Perugia and the Archdiocese of Perugia – Città della Pieve. In collaboration with Rai Umbria, Tgr Umbria and University for Foreigners of Perugia.
