The mayor is the institution closest to citizens: to their needs, their hopes, their difficulties. Municipal administrations are really politics of proximity, of concrete and daily help.
That’s why the Fratelli tutti Foundation next Friday, May 23, at 3 p.m. at Palazzo San Giacomo in Naples will present the Vocabulary of Fraternity (Rizzoli) and the Anci-Fratelli tutti agreement signed in January for an agenda on the values of fraternity to be discussed in town halls throughout Italy. It will also be a stepping stone to the World Meeting on Human Fraternity next September 12-13, which will have an international section dedicated to the world’s mayors.
There will be the host, Mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi, who is also president of Anci, and the secretary general of the Father Francesco Occhetta Foundation. Coordinating the dialogue will be Repubblica columnist Conchita Sannino. Admission is free; find all directions in the poster you see on this page.
We will try to understand how words of hate can be replaced by words of peace and dialogue. And also by administrative choices, concrete initiatives as Mayor Manfredi explained in the letter sent to municipalities to make them aware of the fraternity agenda. “Putting the idea of fraternity and sharing at the center of our policies must not only be an ethical and moral commitment, but it means implementing concrete initiatives that give substance and body to principles that we are already inspired by in our daily work, to be focused each year on a theme, on the issue of health poverty and the loneliness of the elderly.”
The event will be in Italian.
