Competing in mutual esteem. Falling and getting up again. The value of relationships. Team spirit. Friendship and family. These were the themes of the Round Table on Sport. But how can sport be an instrument of peace, of cohesion? Given the social and spiritual distance that exists between people, Pope Francis reminds us that since we all live in a single dimension and with a single destiny, we need to shorten this distance to find a model of social friendship and a grammar of humanity that is essential for creating a system of sharing. And sport can and must be a fundamental element in building a coexistence that fosters fraternity between human beings. Indeed, it is not only an arena for competitive confrontation, but also a means of integration and inclusion, and a moment of sharing that helps to break down all barriers.
