We are halfway through. The second Lectio Petri on Qohelet (or Ecclesiastes), the Book of Crisis, took place yesterday evening in St. Peter’s Basilica on the Altar of the Chair, under Bernini’s Gloria. The Lectio Petri are now in their fourth edition and are organized by the Cortile dei Gentili Foundation and the Fratelli tutti Foundation.
Yesterday’s Lectio focused on Vanity, with the subtitle “Vanity of vanities.” It was another opportunity to take stock of the current state of the world in which we live.
As always, the meeting, attended by about a thousand people, featured several moments of reflection: the spiritual reflection by Father Francesco Occhetta, S.I., Secretary General of the Fratelli tutti Foundation, opened the evening. Read his speech here (in Italian).
This was followed by a reading by actress Nancy Brilli and commentary by His Eminence Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, President Emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Culture and founder of the Cortile dei Gentili, with several musical interludes.
The final analysis was entrusted to Noemi, singer and songwriter, who drew inspiration from the words of Father Occhetta and Cardinal Ravasi and from the biblical text to talk about the world of young people to whom her songs are addressed, about social media, which are now so fundamental in the world of entertainment, and about vanity.

The Lectio will pause for just a few weeks before resuming in 2026 with the last two events, again on Tuesdays starting at 7:00 p.m., with free admission upon reservation. The third Lectio, scheduled for Tuesday, January 20, 2026, will address the theme of Death with the title “In the dust, everything returns.” On February 17, the topic will be Youth and Old Age, and the title will be: “Before the sun, the light, the moon, and the stars are darkened.”
