ROUND TABLE ON EDUCATION: HOW TO RECONSTRUCT THE WORLD

11 may at 4 p.m.
Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei Sala di Scienze Fisiche

Talking about “peace” means addressing all the difficulties and material interests that prevent the culture of peace from redressing inequalities in the world, and the obstacles that prevent access to education, culture, and science for so many peoples. It also means tackling at the root those educational choices that contribute to inequalities in the world, starting with gender inequality, from early childhood. A culture based on individualism and on a view of human beings not as persons but as self-referential subjects also exalts self-assertion and humiliates the relational dimension. Recognition of the other is a prerequisite for any recognition of the self, and this cannot take place outside a culture of fraternity and cannot be separated from that caritas whose centrality we can still affirm today. Teaching is a form of caritas and a mission dedicated to dialogue with and among students.
